Baseball Falls Twice at Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Dane Jones had three hits in game one and Aman Patel allowed just one hit in his four innings, but the LeTourneau baseball team came up short twice in a doubleheader at Redlands on Saturday.

Redlands took the opener, 6-3, before completing the weekend sweep with a 10-2 victory in the finale.

GAME ONE: Redlands 6, LeTourneau 3

Jones hit a solo home run in the fourth and Patel didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, but Redlands scored five runs between the fourth and the fifth to take a 6-3 victory.

Jones went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double in the loss. Zach Zarko, Xander Nabors, and Hayden Norris also had hits for the YellowJackets.

Patel (0-2) had three no-hit innings to begin the game before surrendering a two-run single in the fourth as Redlands took the lead for good. Patel finished the game throwing four innings and allowing one hit and two earned runs.

Down 6-1 in the ninth, LeTourneau crept back in it with an RBI ground out from Carter Amarantos and a Nabors RBI single to make it 6-3.

Redlands starter Joe Godoy (1-0) went the distance and allowed three runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts on 104 pitches.

Camden Miller and Riley Davis combined to allow one earned run out of the LeTourneau bullpen over four innings of work.

GAME TWO: Redlands 10, LeTourneau 2

The YellowJackets struck first with two runs in the first inning, but a seven-run sixth for the host Bulldogs lifted them to a 10-2 victory in the finale.

Nabors, Zarko, Devin Greaff, and Jaggar Vaughn all had a hit apiece for LeTourneau.

Nabors got the YellowJackets on the board with his run-scoring single in the first and Amarantos made it 2-0 later in the inning on his RBI fielder's choice.

Ryan Brewer was strong on the mound in his LeTourneau debut. The freshman right-hander went five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out two.

In the sixth, Redlands got to the YellowJacket bullpen and scored seven times. Luke De vries RBI single gave Redlands the lead for good.

Nathan Buchan (2-0) tossed a complete-game for the Bulldogs and gave up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts on 105 pitches.
