KERRVILLE, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team battled in its spring opener, but came up just short in a 5-4 loss at Schreiner on Friday evening in Kerrville.
LeTourneau (0-1) trailed Schreiner (1-1) after doubles play before taking three singles matches, but could not overcome the slim deficit in the defeat.
Anatole Hurta and
Clara Brisman Taylor notched the YellowJackets' point in doubles with their win at the No. 3 flight, 8-3, over Schreiner's Rachel Rompel and Katherine Bergeron.
Grace Rogers,
Isa Casso, and
Elizabeth Moreau each had wins in the singles portion of the match.
Rogers was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Victoria Morales at the No. 2 flight before Casso earned a 7-6, 6-4 win over Rompel at No. 3. Moreau took down Daniella Rodriquez by a 6-2, 6-2 final at the No. 4 position.
LeTourneau nearly took the fifth and sixth flights that would have completed the comeback. Hurta narrowly fell to Mackenzie Griffin, 7-5, 6-2, at No.5.
Emma Boulanger took Bergeron to three sets at the No. 6 spot, but fell 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
