LONGVIEW, Texas -- A rainy Saturday afternoon allows for one game between the LeTourneau baseball team and visiting Concordia who won 5-0.
It was a pitching duel as both Dakota Palmer (1-2) for Concordia (8-9, 1-6 ASC) and Dalton Pickett (1-2) of LeTourneau (6-10, 1-3 ASC) both had quality starts.
Palmer, credited with the win, went to the rain delay with 6.1 shutout innings and allowed just three hits with five strikeouts.
Pickett, was given the loss, went 6.0 innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs, and got four strikeouts.
Camden Miller came in relief for the top of the seventh inning allowing one hit and no runs.
The Tornados took the lead in the fourth inning, taking advantage of an error and bringing around Efren Sanchez Jr. when Colby Christian doubled to left center. Chris Morrow brought in another run to make it 2-0 with his RBI single.
Concordia added two more runs on no hits and an error in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, lightning struck within the eight-mile radius, initiating a lightning delay that lasted an hour and a half before they were back and playing in the rain.
Brady Staedtler pitched the final strike after the day to retire Xander Nabors and then finished the shutout, allowing no hits in the final 2.2 innings.
TJ Spitdowski took the mound after the delay and allowed just one hit and one earned run for the YellowJackets.
Carter Amarantos and Jonah McDaniel each went 1-for-3 on the day.
Dane Jones went 1-for-4 at the plate.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will finish the series on Sunday with a doubleheader slated for 11:00 a.m.
