Baseball Downs No. 24 UMHB with Norris' 3-Run Shot

LONGVIEW, Texas -- A three-run shot from Hayden Norris was the difference for the LeTourneau baseball team as they took down No. 24 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-2 on Thursday night.

The LeTourneau (10-13, 4-6 ASC) offense was rolling early as they notched a couple of hits in the first inning. One from the bat of Hayden Norris and the other from Dane Jones, although no runs came home.

In the second the YellowJackets picked up right where they left off as Kevin Soto notched his first hit of the season.
Zach Zarko then reached after battling a 0-2 count for a base hit.

This brought up Norris who sent one over the fence in left field to take a 3-0 lead.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-7, 8-5 ASC) would score their first in the top of the fourth inning after Carson Hagan reached on a hit-by-pitch, stole second, and was brought home by Rhett Grosz who grounded out to make it 3-1.

The YellowJackets threatened in the bottom half of four after Zarko hit a double, Dane Jones was walked with two outs, bringing up Ben Jones.

Ben Jones hit one out to left field and would have been good for a home run, but the Crusader left fielder, Carson Hagan robbed Jones with a jumping grab.

The Cru tacked one more on in the sixth inning by the likes of a Carson Riley RBI groundout leaving runners on second and third.

Dalton Pickett worked his way out of that one as he retired Tyler Betts swinging at strike three and forced a groundout from Cameron Talib leaving the score at 3-2 LeTourneau ahead.

TJ Spitdowski came out from the bullpen in the middle of the eighth inning with two runners on (first and second) and forced a groundball double play.

Spitdowski (3) got the save as he forced two groundouts and got a strikeout for the final out.

Pickett (3-2) was credited with the win as he threw 115 pitches in 7.1 innings. Pickett allowed nine hits, two runs, one earned, and struck out seven batters.

James McGlumpy had a quality start with 7.0 innings and just three earned runs. McGlumpy was given the loss with seven hits allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts.

Jacob Haynes came in relief for 1.0 innings and got three strikeouts.
