ABILENE, Texas -- A season-high-tying 14 runs on a season-best 15 hits lifted the LeTourneau softball team to a 14-3, five-inning win over McMurry in the ASC series finale on Saturday afternoon in Abilene.
The win salvaged the three-game set for LeTourneau (14-15, 7-8 ASC).
Five different YellowJackets produced multi-hit games and
Maddie Flanery broke the program's career record for stolen bases in the win.
Flanery went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and three steals in the win. Her three stolen bases gave her 65 in her time as a YellowJacket and broke Courtney Matulis' record of 62.
LeTourneau struck first with four runs in the top of the first inning.
Maddi Smith had an RBI single, one of three hits on the day for her, to open the scoring.
Leighton Landreth added a two-run double and
Payton Bauer delivered an RBI single to make it 4-0.
McMurry (19-9, 11-7 ASC) got a run back in its half of the first, but LeTourneau answered.
Jaci Taylor had an RBI single in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-1.
In the third, LeTourneau scored four more times. Flanery had a two-run single followed by a McMurry error and a sacrifice fly to bring in two more runs for a 9-1 lead.
Landreth then launched a two-run home run in the fourth inning, her fifth of the season, and another McMurry error brought home another before a double steal with Flanery and
Jenna Carter made it 13-1.
Carter added an RBI on a hit by pitch in the fifth for the final tally.
Lexi Hutchins (3-3) was the beneficiary of the all the offense as she tossed all five innings and allowed just three runs on six hits with one strikeout to get the win.
Landreth finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Bauer and Smith each had three hits. Taylor also had two hits and every LeTourneau hitter either drove in a run or reached base safely in the game.
Maya Mongelli (2-3) picked up the loss for McMurry as she went 2.1 innings and allowed eight runs, two earned. Angelica Abila and Morgan Faubion each had two hits in the loss.
