Baseball Bested by UT Dallas in Season Finale

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team fell 9-4 to UT Dallas in the last game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon.

Hayden Norris led LeTourneau in hits going 4-for-5 on the day with Xander Nabors close behind notching three. Both Nabors and Norris had an RBI to their names.

Dane Jones homered in the bottom of the ninth to increase his total to 20 on the season and 41 in his career.

UT Dallas took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning with Riley Davis limiting the damage as the Comets left the bases loaded.

In the top of the third UT Dallas extended their lead to four on three hits.

LeTourneau strung together a couple of hits in the bottom of the fifth starting with Ethan Wood's single to right field.

Zach Zarko followed with a base hit to left before Hayden Norris knocked an RBI single.

In the seventh inning, Dane Jones singled to center and pushed along Garrett Irwin who reached on a hit-by-pitch to third.

Nabors drove in Irwin on a single to left-center to make it 6-2 after seven frames.

The Comets scored three runs on four hits and a pair of errors to extend their lead to seven.

In the bottom of the ninth Hayden Norris singled through the left side for a base hit with Dane Jones up to bat after him.

Jones took the 1-2 pitch and hit it out straightaway to left-center field, over the fence for his last home run of the year.

Riley Davis started on the mound for the YellowJackets, he went 3.0 innings and marked four strikeouts.

Lane Holman came in relief for 2.2 innings of work, recording three Ks, and a pickoff.

TJ Spitdowski followed with 1.1 innings that went scoreless as he faced the minimum four batters.

Dylan Cortes pitched a pair of strikeouts and Jonathan Burton got a strikeout in the final inning.

Dylan Hugley (8-2) went 8.1 innings for UT Dallas. He allowed 14 hits, four earned runs, and had four strikeouts. He faced 39 batters and threw 111 pitches.
