Walk-Off Win Over ETBU for Softball in DH Split

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team took game two 3-2 in walk-off fashion over No. 4 ranked East Texas Baptist who took game one 4-3.

The YellowJacket win is the first one against ETBU since March 22, 2012. The victory also snapped ETBU's 22-game winning streak.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 3 East Texas Baptist 2

East Texas Baptist (23-2, 13-1 ASC) tied up the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning after Tristen Maddox notched a double and worked her way home.

Jenna Carter came aboard for LeTourneau (13-12, 6-5 ASC) in the bottom of the seventh with one out on a single.

Maddie Flanery followed that with a shot through the right side on the first pitch she saw to put runners on the corners. Flanery promptly stole second to take away a force out at second base.

Kylie Grisham then drove in the winning run with her single to right-center.

Kenna Hendry notched an RBI in the bottom of the fourth to take the first YellowJacket lead of the game as Lexi Hutchins and Kylie Grisham both scored to make it 2-1.

Hailee Leger (5-5) pitched a complete game in the circle for LeTourneau. She allowed just two runs, one earned, and got five strikeouts.

Madalyn Melton (2-1) was in to pitch for the Tigers. She allowed seven hits, three runs, two earned, and got three strikeouts.

GAME ONE: East Texas Baptist 4, LeTourneau 3

East Texas Baptist took an early lead scoring one run in the first and added a second one in the top of the fourth leaving it at 2-0.

Lexi Hutchins split the lead in half with a home run out to left-center on a 2-1 count to make it 2-1.

The Tigers added some insurance runs in the sixth inning as Delanie Loya hit a home run of her own to add two more runs for the visitors (4-1). 

Leighton Landreth tried to get a rally going with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3. 

LeTourneau could not find another run to tie the game up.

Laney Taylor (5-3) pitched 6.0 innings for the YellowJackets, allowed four earned runs, and got a strikeout.

Hannah Benavides (10-0) allowed four hits, three runs, one earned, and got five strikeouts for the Tigers.

UP NEXT

LeTourneau will wrap up the series with ETBU tomorrow on "For the Heroes" day (12:00 p.m.).
