Doggett's Walk-Off Lifts Softball to Split of No. 5 Belhaven

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Raina Doggett's two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the LeTourneau softball team to a 4-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader with No. 5 Belhaven.

LeTourneau (3-3) dropped the first game of the twin-bill, 4-3.

The win in game two marked the second straight year LeTourneau has beaten a top-five ranked team at home and the third time since 2023 the YellowJackets have walked-off a ranked opponent.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 4, Belhaven 3

Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh inning, LeTourneau scored three times including Doggett's walk-off two-run double to overcome the visiting Blazers, 4-3.

LeTourneau trailed by a pair of runs heading into its final at-bat. Maddie Flanery singled and stole second before scoring when Jenna Carter reached on an error to make it 3-2.

The YellowJackets put runners on first and second with two outs for Doggett. The freshman came through as she laced a line drive to center field and the ball scooted past the diving effort from Belhaven's Reagan Bryan. Carter scored easily from second and Maddi Smith came around from first to score the winning run.

Doggett's hit was one of nine for the YellowJackets in the win. Smith went 3-for-4 and Flanery was 2-for-4 with two runs and two steals. Jaci Taylor, Payton Bauer, and Lilly Longoria all had a hit apiece.

LeTourneau grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning. An infield single from Flanery followed by a steal led to a Carter sacrifice fly.

Belhaven (1-1) answered with a run in the fourth and two unearned runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 edge.

Laney Taylor (2-1) went all seven innings in the circle for LeTourneau and allowed one earned run on seven hits. Belle West (0-1) picked up the loss for the Blazers after allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings.

Ellie Jones and Bryan each had two hits for Belhaven.

GAME ONE: Belhaven 4, LeTourneau 3

LeTourneau took a 3-1 lead early, but a two-run sixth propelled Belhaven to a 4-3 win in the opener.

Flanery went 2-for-4 with two steals to lead LeTourneau as the YellowJackets collected six hits in the loss.

LeTourneau took advantage of a Belhaven error to score three runs in the second inning. Longoria had an RBI single that plated Smith to tie the game and a Kylie Grisham two-run double gave the YellowJackets a 3-1 lead.

Belhaven got a run back in the fifth and then scored twice in the sixth to take the lead for good. Colby Hollinger's two-run double with one out was the clutch hit in the sixth that gave the Blazers the lead.

Kirstin Ferguson (1-2) pitched well for LeTourneau as she went the distance and allowed just three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Belhaven's Macy Funderburk (1-0) also went all seven innings and struck out five while surrendering zero earned runs.
