LONGVIEW, Texas -- After waiting until the evening hours for the rain to clear, LeTourneau men's tennis took the courts and looked as ready as ever, taking a 6-1 win over visiting Austin College at the Davis Tennis Courts on Sunday.
The YellowJackets go up to 1-1 on the season, while the 'Roos fall to 0-4.
LeTourneau took two doubles flights and got the benefit of a default win in No. 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. No. 1 pairing
Zach Farris and
Fernando Vazquez defeated Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner 6-1, while
Andrew Reiman and
Diego Maldonado swept Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga 6-0.
Farris would then hold serve at No. 1 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Trey Salyer. Reiman followed at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Patrick Fenner.
Vazquez would round out the singles wins with his commanding victory at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) over Cruz Rocha.
Diego Maldonado and
Timothy Black were also winners by default due to Austin College not supplying them with sufficient opponents.
Liam Wedge would fall at the No. 4 spot in a tight match (4-6, 6-1, 8-10).
