LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's tennis shook off the eight hour delay of match start time to earn their first win of the season in a 7-0 sweep over Austin College at the Davis Tennis Courts on Sunday evening.
The YellowJackets improve to 1-1 on the season, while Austin College falls to 0-5.
LeTourneau got off to a fast start by sweeping the doubles matches to set the tone.
Isa Casso and
Elizabeth Moreau took down No. 1 doubles, 6-3, while No. 2 flight
Kylie Weeks and
Maddie Nichol also won 6-3 and No. 3 team
Chloe Tesser and
Emmy Phillips were victorious by a 6-2 score.
In singles play, Casso would win her match at the No. 1 spot over Bailey Standokes with relative ease (6-2, 6-2), while Moreau mounted a valiant comeback against Olivia Sanchez to take the win at the No. 2 spot in a closely contested third set tiebreak (3-6, 6-3, 11-9).
No. 3 singles Nichol needed two sets to take her match against Karsyn Clouse (6-4, 6-3), and Weeks followed at No. 4 with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win over Natalie Valle.
Chloe Tesser defeated Emma Davidson in No. 5 singles in another five-set tiebreak (5-7, 6-4, 10-5), and Phillips used the momentum from a set one tiebreak win to round out the sweep, defeating Lauren Hofeldt at the No. 6 spot (7-6 (4), 6-3).
UP NEXT
The YellowJackets will make a drive to Arkansas next weekend, starting with a match at Hendrix on Friday at 2 p.m.
