NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Playing its first Division I opponent in 19 years, the LeTourneau baseball team fell at Northwestern State in midweek action, 18-1, on Tuesday night at Brown-Stroud Field.
LeTourneau (4-4) was taking an unusual trip outside its normal Division III schedule to face off with Northwestern State (5-7) for the first time in program history. It was the first time the YellowJackets faced a Division I opponent since 2006 (Dallas Baptist) and just the fifth Division I game overall since 1999.
Isaac Price produced the lone run for the YellowJackets. Price took the first pitch of the fifth inning and deposited it over the left field fence for a solo home run.
The homer was the first of the season for Price and his first as a YellowJacket.Â
The host Demons flexed their collective muscle in the first inning putting seven runs across. NSU added a second seven-run inning in the third to break the game wide open.
YellowJacket pitching found its groove late in the game.
Brooks Bishop and
Camden Miller each tossed scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Bishop struck out two, while Miller collected three strikeouts.
As a pitching staff, seven LeTourneau arms combined for 11 strikeouts.
Austin Wiederhold led off the game with a single and finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Xander Nabors, Price, and
Zach Zarko all had one hit each.
Clay Jung went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs, while Reese Lipoma also had three hits to lead the Demons offensively. Rocco Gump was 2-for-3 with a home run.
Demons starter Kevin Robinson notched the win after going two innings and allowing two hits.
Lane Holman (1-1) got the loss for the YellowJackets in his start.
