ABILENE, Texas -- Down six runs in the seventh inning, the LeTourneau baseball team scored 12 runs over the final three innings to earn a 15-11 victory over Hardin-Simmons and claim an ASC series victory on Saturday afternoon.
LeTourneau (18-13, 10-2 ASC) has won four straight series, including three in conference play, while winning 12 of the last 14 games. The win marked the third time this season the YellowJackets have won a game when trailing by six-plus runs.
Dane Jones started the comeback with a three-run home run in the seventh inning, his seventh home run of the series and the 14th of the season. Jones finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Trailing 9-3 entering the seventh, Jones' blast was a kickstarter for the YellowJackets. The home run got LeTourneau within 9-6.
Hardin-Simmons (7-20, 4-8 ASC) got a run back in the bottom of the seventh to make it 10-6.Â
In the top of the eighth, LeTourneau scored seven runs and took advantage of two Hardin-Simmons errors.
Austin Wiederhold produced an RBI single to score
Isaac Price before a Jones fielder's choice added another run to make it 10-8.
Xander Nabors got LeTourneau within one (10-9) with his RBI single and
Luke Land tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice. A Cowboy error followed by Price's two-run single capped the frame and gave LeTourneau a 13-10 lead.
Nabors tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth with his two-run triple that plated both Jones and Wiederhold for a 15-10 lead.
Clayton Holt (3-1) took the win as he threw one inning of relief, while
Cruz Cox picked up the two-inning save.
Will Podsednik made the start and tossed four scoreless innings.
Zach Baker and Nabors each had three hits as LeTourneau totaled 15 in the win.
