ABILENE, Texas -- The No. 4 seed LeTourneau men's tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 4-1 loss to No. 1 seed, and host, Hardin-Simmons in the ASC Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon.
LeTourneau ends the year with a 9-11 record. Hardin-Simmons (9-12) will play in the championship on Saturday against either No. 2 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor or No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist.Â
Hardin-Simmons took flights two and three in doubles to earn the point. The Cowboys' Payne Smith and Jameson Sorrell defeated
Diego Maldonado and
Andrew Reiman by a 6-1 final shortly after Brandon Curiel and Nicholas Boquet were 6-1 winners over
Timothy Black and
Hayden Harry.
LeTourneau battled in singles play to stay in the match.Â
Reiman took a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Boquet at the No. 2 flight. The win was the second singles victory for Reiman in the tournament after he earned the clincher in Thursday's win over Howard Payne.
Hardin-Simmons clinched the win with three singles victories. Zach Fowler defeated
Fernando Vazquez 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to clinch the win. Curiel was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over
Liam Wedge and Paxton O'Shea defeated Maldonado 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.Â
Zach Farris had taken Smith into a third set at the top flight when the match concluded, while
Brayden Money had also extended his match with Maddux Foster into a third set.
