MARSHALL, Texas -- In its first-ever ASC Tournament championship game, the No. 4 seeded LeTourneau softball team battled top-ranked, and host, East Texas Baptist before falling 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
LeTourneau ends the year 18-27 overall. The YellowJackets were making the program's first appearance in the championship round of the ASC Tournament in LeTourneau's final year as a member of the conference.
East Texas Baptist (40-3), ranked No. 1 nationally throughout the season, advances to the NCAA Tournament.
A pitcher's duel throughout the contest, the host Tigers were able to squeeze in two runs in the middle innings. Bella Morales worked a bases loaded walk in the second inning and Morales doubled home Mallory Pyle in the fourth inning for the only runs of the game.
Laney Taylor (8-13) made the start in the circle for LeTourneau and allowed just two runs in her 3.1 innings. Taylor was named to the All-Tournament team as she surrendered just three runs in 15.1 innings across three games for the YellowJackets.
Jaci Taylor had a single to center field in the sixth inning for LeTourneau's lone hit against ETBU starter Avery Holland.
Maddie Flanery led off the game with a hit-by-pitch and
Jenna Rosson worked a walk in the second inning.
Paiton Altmiller tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Taylor and allowed just one hit.Â
Taylor,
Leighton Landreth,
Maddi Smith, and
Jenna Carter were all named to the ASC All-Tournament team. Landreth hit two home runs and had eight RBIs in the tournament. Smith had the go-ahead RBI single in Friday's win over Mary Hardin-Baylor while playing a standout third base. Carter had one outfield assist and had five hits in the tournament.
