Patel, Holt Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball senior Aman Patel and junior Clayton Holt were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team, announced the organization on Tuesday.

CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Patel, a senior from Missouri City, Texas, earns his third straight CSC Academic All-District honor. An All-ASC second team selection this year, Patel was the series-opening starter throughout the year and totaled three wins in a team-high 60 innings pitched. Patel allowed one earned run over six innings twice on the year -- against Sewanee and Howard Payne -- and collected a season-high eight strikeouts in a win over Howard Payne. Patel eclipsed 200 career strikeouts in an ASC Tournament win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, becoming the fourth pitcher in program history to achieve the feat.

Majoring in business accounting, Patel will be a four-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree to go with his three CSC Academic All-District nods.

Holt, a junior from Dobbin, Texas, collects his first career CSC Academic honor. A top reliever for the YellowJackets this season, Holt earned All-ASC first team honors. Holt compiled a 5-1 record with two saves across 34.1 innings pitched on the year. The right-hander led LeTourneau with 51 strikeouts and ranked second in the ASC with that total. In ASC games, Holt had a 2.40 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 15 innings and held the opposition to a .189 batting average. Holt earned a spot on the ASC All-Tournament team after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a 7-6 win over Hardin-Simmons. He was named the ASC Pitcher of the Week on April 21 after notching a three-inning save at ETBU.

Majoring in kinesiology, Holt will be a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America® program students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be a significant contributor to the team (position players must have played in 90 percent of the team's games or started in 66 percent, while pitchers must have appeared in 17 games or thrown 35 innings), and be at least a sophomore academically.
