Women's Soccer's Shutout Streak Continues in 3-0 Defeat of Millsaps

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The streak continues.

The LeTourneau women's soccer team extended its season-opening shutout streak to three matches with a 3-0 defeat of Millsaps on Saturday evening.

LeTourneau (2-0-1) has its longest shutout streak since 2023 in tact, and this is the first time they have opened a season with three shutouts since 2018. The smothering defense of the Jackets limited the Majors (1-2) to just six shots, two of which were on goal.

While the Millsaps offense struggled all night to get anything going offensively, the opposite was true for the YellowJackets, who fired a season-high 27 shots, 14 of which were on goal.

Sarah Wyatt began the scoring for LeTourneau with her 22nd minute push shot, tucked inside the right goalpost. The defense held strong the rest of the half, holding the Majors to just one shot.

The second half remained scoreless until Michelle Olivas fired in one of the best goals anyone will see, a drive from well outside the 18-yard box that sailed into the opposite side of the goal. The strike (52') expanded the lead to 2-0.

Chanel Kemball-Cook would add the final blow with her goal just 3:29 later, as Olivas placed a perfect pass to the foot of Kemball-Cook, who punched it in to make it 3-0.

The Majors were only able to get one shot the rest of the way, as the defensive line of Avery Gortney, Clarissa Martinez, Jaye Dugan, Kyleigh Chavez, and Sophia Merjil held down the fort. Gortney, Martinez and Merjil played all 90 minutes of the match.

Lana Whiteman also had multiple defensive contributions from the defensive midfield slot, while Reagan Parks, Zoe Harbison, Camila Andrade, Brandy Moran, Shelby Smith, Kathy Villareal, and Natalie Alvarado kept up the offensive pressure all game long.

Freshman goalkeeper Kinsey Fulks had a major hand in the shutout effort also, stopping both shots she faced to record her third shutout in as many collegiate games.

For Millsaps, Lozano recorded 11 saves in the match, while Suzanna Busbee contributed both shots on goal.
