Women's Soccer Falls to Celts in SCAC Semifinals

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- LeTourneau women's soccer saw its season come to an end in the SCAC Tournament semifinals, falling 2-1 to the St. Thomas Celts on Friday night at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

St. Thomas (7-7-4) found the back of the net twice in the first 12 minutes, and despite a Celt red card in the 28th, Chanel Kemball-Cook's 67th-minute score wasn't enough, ending their SCAC Tournament run.

Despite the loss, LeTourneau's 2026 campaign was nothing short of historic.

Ending the season with an 11-4-2 record, LeTourneau ties the 2018 squad with the most wins in a single season, and the YellowJackets' .706 winning percentage marks a program record.

Bre Medina broke the match open in the second minute, as Ashleyh Ruiz pitched a pass ahead of LeTourneau's back line, allowing Medina to easily knock in the one-on-one chance.

Just 10 minutes later -- in the 12th -- Ruiz recorded a goal for herself via penalty kick to put St. Thomas ahead 2-0.

Sarah Wyatt had a breakaway in the 28th minute, but was taken down from behind just outside the box by Aryanna Vazquez, who was assessed a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

LeTourneau was able to turn up the pressure with the advantage, outshooting the Celts 10-4 for the remainder of the match.

In the 67th, Kemball-Cook fired with her right foot from 20 yards out, and rocketed the ball off Kylie Soich to trim the lead to 2-1.

The score was Kemball-Cook's 43rd of her career, finishing third in the program's all-time ranks. The goal was also her 17th of the season, second-most in program history.

It wouldn't be enough, however, as the No. 2-seeded Celts held firm on defense, securing the win and advancing to the SCAC Championship match.
