LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau softball split its Saturday SCAC doubleheader against Centenary, clinching the series with a 7-1 win in game one, before dropping the finale 4-3.
LeTourneau (6-13, 5-10 SCAC) plated seven runs on 14 hits to propel them to a game one victory, backed by a high-quality start by
Bree Brege (3-4), allowing just one run through 5.2 innings.
Jenna Carter had a day at the plate for the Jackets, going 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
Rylie Shipp followed suit with a four-hit day of her own, scoring four runs along the way.
Maddie Flanery reached safely five times and added three stolen bases bring her season total up to 20.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 7, Centenary 1
Carter went 3-for-4 in the opener with a trio of runners brought home, while
Laila LaCapra and
Taylor Gouge added two hits apiece.
Flanery was plated by a single through the left side by Carter in the first, before
Raina Doggett brought home one of her two RBIs on a sac fly to give LeTourneau a 2-0 lead after the first.
The YellowJackets tacked on one more in the third inning when
Mandy Hoback had an opposite-field single to plate LaCapra.
The Ladies (7-11, 7-5 SCAC) found their lone run of the opener in the sixth inning when Morgan Dawson poked one through the left side.
LeTourneau supplied some insurance in the sixth when they brought home four runs to make it 7-1.
Carter scored a pair when she smoked a double to left center, followed by LaCapra bringing home Shipp on a bloop hit down the right field line. Doggett then plated Carter to cap the four-run inning and seal the series winner.
Laynie Davis earned her second save after working out of a jam to close out the sixth and making quick work of the Ladies in the final inning.
Haydyn Schexnayder (1-3) received the loss after allowing the opening runs in the first inning and was then relieved in the second.
GAME TWO: Centenary 4, LeTourneau 3
Flanery and LaCapra provided two hits each in the finale, alongside
Natalie Noriega going 2-for-4 at the plate.
LeTourneau scored in the first inning in all three games of the series, this time coming when Gouge hit home Shipp on a groundout, opening the game 1-0.
The scoreboard went quiet until the fourth, when Centenary had their best inning of the weekend, plating three runs.
The YellowJackets quickly responded with runs in the home half of the fifth, as Carter brought home Flanery on a sacrifice fly, followed by Gouge plating Shipp -- this time on a single down the line -- for the second time to tie the game 3-3.
Noelle Sandmann dropped down a bunt single, stole second, and later scored in the sixth, though, to produce the eventual winning run.
Doggett provided a leadoff double off the left field wall in the seventh, but the YellowJackets were unable to plate her, dropping the series finale 4-3.
Brooke Bubert (2-6) took the loss in relief, with the only run she allowed in three innings of relief work being the go-ahead run in the sixth.
Abby Hodgson (1-0) earned the win in her season debut out of the pen, throwing three scoreless innings.
Sandmann led Centenary at the plate between the games, collecting four hits and scoring twice.
