LONGVIEW, Texas --
Clayton Holt embraced Senior Day Weekend, throwing a complete-game shutout en route to LeTourneau baseball's 6-0 win over Hendrix on Thursday night at Conrad-Vernon Field.
Holt (5-1) -- coming off a one-run, 7.2-inning start last week -- allowed just five baserunners in LeTourneau's victory. His final line was nine innings pitched, nine strikeouts, zero runs, three hits, and two walks.
The senior becomes the first YellowJacket since March 7, 2020, to throw a nine-inning complete-game shutout.Â
Taking advantage of some wayward Hendrix (19-16, 14-11 SCAC) defending, LeTourneau (18-17, 15-10 SCAC) opened the scoring early with a three-run first inning.
Chris Savage brought Zack Baker home on an RBI-groundout to second base. followed by
Cody Brady scoring on a wild pitch just two batters later.
The inning was capped by a
Seth Hudson single down the right field line, scoring
Jack Kale.
In the second, Baker drove one up the middle to plate
Jake Morris -- who swiped two bases to get to third -- making the score 4-0.
The scoring was capped in the fifth inning, as Kale wrapped a two-run homer just around the left field foul pole, pushing the lead to 6-0.
In the top of the ninth, Holt looked as if he could go another nine, striking out two of the final three batters to secure the win.
Kyle Taylor (1-2) took the loss for Hendrix, allowing all six of the runs scored in five innings pitched.
Zane Nolan was the only Warrior to reach base twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk.
