Softball Closes Season With Loss on Senior Day

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The 2026 season came to an end for the LeTourneau softball team on Saturday with an 11-6 loss to Schreiner on Senior Day at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

LeTourneau (17-23, 12-18 SCAC) was eliminated from its SCAC Tournament chances with the loss coupled with Ozarks' win over Centenary in the first game of that doubleheader on Saturday.

LeTourneau honored its four seniors -- Jenna Rosson, Rylie Shipp, Jenna Carter, and Maddie Flanery -- before the game. Shipp set the program's single-season hits record this year, while Carter ranks second all-time in career batting average, and Flanery set multiple career and season records during her time as a YellowJacket. Rosson, who has battled injuries throughout the year, made her first start of the season.

Schreiner (13-27, 10-20 SCAC) got on the board in the top of the first on Erin Shutts' RBI infield single to go ahead 1-0.

LeTourneau wasted no time in the bottom of the inning with a wild play that brought home two runs. Flanery walked to start the frame and then stole second. Laynie Davis laid down a bunt and an errant throw from the Schreiner infielder went all the way down into the right field corner. Flanery scored easily and Davis circled the bases to put LeTourneau ahead 2-1.

That lead did not last, however. Schreiner sent 10 to the plate in the second inning and a grand slam from Romy Nunez capped a six-run inning for the visiting Mountaineers to grab a 7-2 lead.

LeTourneau got three back in the third inning as Schreiner made two defensive miscues on a Taylor Gouge pop up to second that allowed all three runners on base to score and make it 7-5. In the fourth, Shipp delivered an RBI single to get LeTourneau within 7-6.

In the sixth, Schreiner put the game out of reach with four runs. Payton Eubanks-Smith's two-run double made it 10-6 and the Mountaineers added one more for the final tally.

Davis and Shipp each had two hits in the loss for LeTourneau. Shipp ends the year with a new program record 57 hits. Flanery and Carter had one hit each in their final game as YellowJackets, while Flanery stole one base to finish with 151 career steals.

Davis (6-6) made the start in the circle and took the loss for LeTourneau. Brooke Bubert came on in relief and tossed six innings.

Anyssia Mendoza (8-9) took the win for Schreiner as she went four innings and did not allow an earned run. Nunez went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Schreiner's 12-hit offense.
