ANNUAL HONORS: Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

By Andrew Mindeman, Associate AD for Communications

A top runner throughout his four years on the trails and the track, David Dugan pursued excellence in his sport and in the classroom.

Now, he is the 2025-26 LeTourneau Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

He set program records, was a multi-all-conference selection, and garnered a myriad of academic awards. David Dugan was a leader during his time as a YellowJacket.

A recent graduate from Lake Oswego, Ore., Dugan was a four-time all-conference honoree in cross country and collected two more all-conference accolades in track. He holds two program records in track and has seven of the top-30 times in cross country history. Dugan was the ASC Freshman of the Year in cross country in 2022 and helped the program to an ASC cross country championship in 2024.

“To accomplish what David Dugan did during his time here at LeTourneau takes a lot of dedication and focus,” said head cross country coach Kevin Gideon. “I was always impressed by his ability to balance high workloads in school and sport. At the same time, you would often see him at a piano or with a guitar just hanging out singing a song. He had a strong drive and always found a way. Even when injuries kept him from running, he would be on the bike or elliptical putting in time.”

In the classroom, Dugan was just as elite. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering with a 3.95 GPA. He was a two-time SCAC Elite 19 Award winner this season – earning the award in both men's cross country and men's track and field. Dugan was a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and earned six conference all-academic nods. He also collected USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for cross country following the 2025 season.

A true renaissance man, Dugan showed his love for music as he was a member of worship bands at his Longview church – One Hope Presbyterian – and LeTourneau chapel services.

“Dugan was a great example of a leader and a good teammate," added Gideon. "I will miss getting to work with him but excited to see where his future endeavors take him.”
