Aaron Gentry is beginning his eighth season as the assistant baseball coach at LeTourneau University.
Gentry and head coach Robin Harriss have twice been named the American Southwest Conference’s Coaching Staff of the Year, earning the awards in 2014 and 2011.
Since Gentry joined the coaching staff prior to the 2008 season, five YellowJackets have earned all-region honors and 40 have picked up all-conference honors, including a first team selection five of the last six seasons. The Yellow Jackets also have found success in the classroom, earning 54 Academic All-ASC honors, including a program best 15 in 2015. Gentry serves as the third base coach for LETU and works tirelessly on recruiting for the YellowJackets.
In 2014, LeTourneau had a banner year, earning a berth in the NCAA Regionals, an American Southwest Conference Tournament title and the first national ranking in program history. The YellowJackets, who were picked to finish ninth in league play, went on to a runner-up finish during the regular season, en route to earning ASC Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.
Prior to joining the LeTourneau coaching staff, Gentry was a volunteer assistant at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., from 2004-07. Gentry played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1997-2000 after being drafted in the 12th round of the 1997 draft. It was the third time in his career that he had been drafted by a major league team.
Gentry led Berry College to a TranSouth Conference title as a senior in 1997, batting .404 with a .564 slugging percentage, a .484 on-base percentage, 15 doubles and three home runs and 38 RBI. He also was named the conference tournament MVP that season. Prior to his two-year career at Berry College, Gentry spent his sophomore season at Labette Community College and his freshman season at the University of Arkansas after a standout high school career at Claremore High School.
Gentry boasts a bachelor’s degree in behavioral and social science as well as a master’s degree in counseling psychology. In addition to his coaching duties, he serves as the Director of Field Maintenance for LeTourneau. Gentry and his wife, Lauren reside in Longview along with their son, Brooks.
