Christian Farris was named the full-time assistant coach for LeTourneau men's and women's tennis programs in May 2023. The 2024-25 season was his second in the role, but his fourth overall on the coaching staff at LeTourneau.
Farris takes on the role after serving as a graduate assistant for the last two years.
"I’m incredibly excited about being in a full-time position at LeTourneau. I have never been more excited about the direction LeTourneau Athletics is heading," Farris said at the time of his promotion. "I hope to help our program grow in both spiritual and athletic excellence."
"It is exciting to have Christian step into this position," head coach Suzanne Merritt added. "He has been an important part of our program as a player and graduate assistant. He had a very successful career when he played at LETU and brings the same passion and dedication to coaching. Christian is very knowledgeable about tennis, and he is committed to discipling and mentoring our players as they navigate college life and prepare for the future. I am looking forward to working together to see our program continue to grow and complete regionally and nationally."
Farris spent six seasons with the YellowJacket programs as a player and as a coach. A four-year player on the court for LeTourneau, Farris was the ASC East Division Most Valuable Player in 2019 after tallying 13 singles wins and 14 on the doubles side to help the YellowJackets win the ASC East Division regular season title. He was a three-time All-ASC East selection between singles and doubles.
Additionally, Farris was a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree and collected CoSIDA Academic All-District once. As a senior, Farris was the LeTourneau Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner, ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor, and a ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.Â
On the coaching staff for the last two seasons, Farris assisted in all aspects within the program including practice and match planning along with player development and recruiting.
"Having played for Coach Merritt for four years and a graduate assistant for two, we understand one another's coaching style well," Farris added. "We also have a common vision for where our team is headed."
Farris graduated from LeTourneau in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in biology. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from LeTourneau in May 2023.
He and his wife, Payton (Pierce) '20, have two children.
