Michael McLaughlin

Michael McLaughlin rejoined LeTourneau men's and women's tennis programs as an assistant coach in Sept. 2021. After his four-year playing career, he served as a graduate assistant from Aug. 2016 to May 2018.
 
During his time away from LeTourneau, McLaughlin served as the men's and women's head tennis coach at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. His 2021 women's squad won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Championship Tournament. He had four players from the men's team and six women's garner All-GPAC Honors after the 2021 campaign.
 
He began his coaching career as the assistant coach at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Ala., from Aug. 2018 - May 2019, where the women's team qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship Tournament.
 
McLaughlin finished his playing career tied for sixth all-time in career wins for singles (37) and ninth all-time in career doubles wins (38). Three times during his career, he was named to the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Honor Roll for his efforts in the classroom. In the summer of 2016, McLaughlin was recognized as an ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Scholar-Athlete, plus the men's team was named All-Academic Team.
 
As a senior, along with teammate Morgan Weaver, they were named second team all-ASC East Division at No. 1 doubles. During his junior year, his win in the first round of the ASC Tournament propelled the Yellowjackets to a spot in the quarterfinals. For his efforts, he was named to the All-Tournament Team. As a freshman, he along with Josh Bailley were named honorable mention all-ASC East Division at No. 3 doubles.
 
Prior to attending LeTourneau, he was a four-year standout at Douglas High School in Horton, Alabama. He posted a 20-2 singles record and a 22-1 doubles record as a senior, where the team won the county championship three times, the sectional championship three times, and finished in third place at the 4A state championship once.
 
McLaughlin earned his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in mathematics, education and engineering from LeTourneau in May 2016 and received his master's degree in education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction in 2018.
