Dr. Tim SceggelDr. Tim Sceggel was named the Vice President for Athletics at LeTourneau University in May 2022. 

Upon his arrival in East Texas, Dr. Sceggel made a host of changes in the department. He began his tenure by enlisting in a wave of new hires, including five head coaches in his first 90 days. Additionally on the personal front, Sceggel brought in the first full-time strength & conditioning head coach in the institution’s history; ultimately hiring 84 percent of the athletic department in the first 24 months of employment. Other highlights within the department have included:

  • In year one of his tenure, two coaches were named coach of the year and four teams had the best seasons in their programs' history.
  • Implementing a new mission statement and a host of facility improvements; including repurposing a pool into a new 6,000 square foot Athletic Performance Lab.
  • Designing and breaking ground on a $30 million indoor facility for indoor track, which will become one of only four in Texas, encompassing 120,000 square feet.
  • Creating and launching the Center for Athletic Discipleship & Excellence in 2024.
  • After 27 years in the the American Southwest Conference, he led the department into membership in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference beginning in 2025.
  • Achieving a departmental record score of 4.65/5 on the Best Christian Workplaces survey, placing in the 100th percentile out of over 400 other Christian organizations in 2023, and again in 2024.

Sceggel came from Covenant College in Georgia, where he served for 15 years, the last six as Director of Athletics. While leading the department at Covenant, he oversaw the most successful tenure in the history of the athletic department, which included: 

  • 17 conference championships
  • 4 All-Americans
  • 5 Coach of the Year Awards
  • 5 Players of the Year
  • 3 Sportsmanship Trophies
  • Highest department GPA in the school history (3.35, Spring 2020)
  • 487 selections to USA South All-Academic teams
  • Finished 3rd out of 18 in the 2021-22 USA South Presidents Cup standings (highest finish in department history)

Sceggel also developed and launched the Scots Athletic Club in 2017, which was the first structured fundraising effort of the athletic department in the college's history. Due to the unprecedented success of the athletic department, Sceggel won a number of national awards. 

He was previously the Associate AD at Covenant where he was responsible for a number of departmental responsibilities including compliance, event and facility management, and personnel oversight. Prior to Covenant, Sceggel served in the athletic departments at Wheaton College (Ill.) and the University of Louisville.

In addition to his role in athletics, Sceggel was also the Chair for Health, Wellness, and Coaching department. He was part of the two-person team that developed and launched the Sport Management major in 2015. He has also taught in the graduate school of several other CCCU institutions, including Messiah University.

In addition to his bachelor's degree in sociology from Covenant, he holds a master's degree in sport administration from the University of Louisville. Sceggel also served on the Sport Administration Advisory Board at Louisville. Additionally, Sceggel earned a doctorate from the University of Alabama in Higher Education Administration, where his research focused on the faith development of student-athletes in the context of Christian college athletics.
