Matthew Haesecke

Matthew Haesecke begins his seventh season as the head men’s soccer coach at LeTourneau University.

In the spring of 2016, former men's soccer standout Xavier Scarlett was named the American Southwest Conference Fred Jacoby Sportsmanship Award recipient along with Seth Walters of the men's golf team. In 2015, five members picked up all-conference honors from the American Southwest Conference. Xavier Scarlett picked up his third all-conference honor with third team honors in 2015. He joins Daniel Iya in 2008 as the only other honoree in school history to receive the conference sportsmanship award. Scarlett also becomes the fourth player in program history along with Iya, Dillon Holt and Ryan Potter to pick up three all-conference honors. Also earning all-ASC honors were Aaron Hastings and Jay Huemoeller, who earned second and third team all-ASC honors, respectively. Plus, Miguel Cabrera and Antonio Fernandez were selected honorable mention all-ASC.

In 2014, LeTourneau had two players - Cabrera and Adam Schultz - for the first time in program history to earn first team all-American Southwest Conference. Scarlett and Carlos Guevara also picked up their second all-conference honors.

Haesecke has always fielded a team that was strong in the classroom, in addition to the field. On 28 occasions, a LETU players has been named to the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team. In addition, Danny Canaviri, a three-year member of the LETU men's soccer team, was selected as the LeTourneau University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014-15. 
 
In his third season, the YellowJackets went 6-10-2 with a 6-5 record in ASC play, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. The YellowJackets were led by the 2011 second team all-conference performer Dillon Holt.

In Haesecke's second season at LETU, the YellowJackets went 10-8 with a 7-5 record in ASC league play. The Jackets, led by ASC Offensive Player of the Year Dillon Holt and All-ASC goalie Kyle Davis, posted an 8-1 record at home in 2010.

In his first season at the helm at LeTourneau, Haesecke's team tied a school record for ties in a season with four. The 2009 team was resilient throughout the season and fought hard in coming from behind. Under Haesecke, YellowJackets goalkeeper Kyle Davis stopped five penalty kicks, including three in one game. He coached Dillon Holt and Trey McLaughlin to ASC First and Second Team honors. Patrick Thompson, Ben Stoeckman and Sergio Palacios garnered honorable mention honors.

Haesecke, who has coached soccer for 13 years, came to LeTourneau University from Christian Academy of Guatemala in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where he served as men’s soccer coach and Physical Education Instructor from 2001-2009. He helped guide the team to the quarterfinals in the National Tournament of Guatemala, Copa Escolar as head coach.

Prior to working in Guatemala, Haesecke served as a Bible Teacher and boys and girls soccer coach at Heritage Christian School in Milwaukee, Wis., from 1996-2001. He helped guide the team to the WISAA State Championship as an assistant coach in 1999.
 
Haesecke, who was a member of the All-Citrus Belt League and Team MVP during his senior year at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, Calif., where he graduated in 1991, attended Texas A&M University for one year before completing his final three years of college at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill., from 1992-95. While at Moody Bible Institute, he was a two-time All-District member and an NCCAA All-American selection in 1994 when the team won the NCCAA National Championship. A two-time captain at Moody and a member of the NCCAA All-Tournament Team, Haesecke graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Education.
  
Haesecke, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2001 with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2001, has a USSF National “B” license.  In addition, he also has the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

He is married to wife, Rebecca and they have three children: Leorah, Brayden and Logan.
