JACKSON, Miss. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket volleyball team concluded their season on Saturday as they took on the Huntingdon Hawks in the tail end of a doubleheader. The Jackets put together one of their best games of the season as they defeated Huntingdon in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-19.
"It was a total team effort," said Head Coach Scott Peluso. "This one we can build off of going into the offseason as we continue to grow and improve our program."
Junior Jo Runnels led the way for LeTourneau, scoring seven kills, 15 digs, and four blocks while leading the team in passing efficiency on the afternoon. Freshman Kayla Ronda was also efficient with eight kills and .292 hitting percentage, while freshman Alexia Thomas had nine kills and no errors and a hitting percentage of .391.
Competing in her final match as a YellowJacket, sophomore Kelsie Doran had a career day for LeTourneau as she finished on a high note with 15 assists.
"The team really wanted to get a win for Kelsie and send her out properly." added Peluso. "I am proud of the progress we made this season both on and off the court."
The season comes to a close for LeTourneau as they dropped matches to Belhaven, Millsaps, and Loyola earlier in the week. The Jackets only lose Doran and will return all players, including a huge freshman class, for the 2013 season.
Peluso goes on to say, "We have a very promising future and I look forward to seeing God continue to move in the lives of our student-athletes."
