Fajardo's Big Second Half Leads YellowJackets to Victory

LONGVIEW - Three second-half three-pointers from Ashley Fajardo sparked a run for the LeTourneau University YellowJackets as they downed Hendrix College 64-44 at Solheim Arena Saturday afternoon.

Hendrix took one of their only leads of the game at the start as they got a few early baskets to go up 4-2. Junior Jessica Manas responded as she scored the first eight point of the game for the Jackets, including two three pointers that gave LeTourneau the lead.

The Jackets began to dominate the first half, holding the Warriors to 24% shooting and outrebounding them by five thanks to seven boards from freshman Ashley Stephens. LeTourneau also only committed eight turnovers to Hendrix's 10.

In the second half, the Jackets looked to pull away, but Hendrix responded and made it a five point game midway through the second half.

However, Fajardo came off the bench and swung the momentum into LeTourneau's favor as they pulled away in the second half. Her performance, as well as Manas, sat atop the leading scorer's with 15 on the afternoon. They also led the way with three assists each. Stephens added a career-high 12 rebounds to go with eight points, and two blocks.

"I thought we played better in the second half then in the first half," said Head Coach Corey Thomaston. "We need to shoot the basketball with more confidence and make better defensive adjustments.

The next game for LeTourneau is Monday afternoon against the University of Dallas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm and live audio and video will be available through letuathletics.com.
