LONGVIEW, Texas – Jo Runnels had 21 kills to lead LeTourneau, but the YellowJackets volleyball team fell short in a close battle with Mississippi College, 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23), Friday night at Solheim Arena.
"It was a pretty hard-fought battle," LeTourneau head volleyball coach Scott Peluso said. "Our kids came out with a lot of energy. We had a great crowd tonight that really lifted them up. We played a lot of points tough. Our outside hitters Kayla Ronda and Jo Runnels were lights out. Mississippi College had a hard time stopping them."
After dropping the first set, LETU fought back to claim the second set and even the score at 1-1. Both the third and fourth sets came down to the wire, with Mississippi College claiming both by a combined four points.
"We struggled a little bit with scoring points at critical points in the match," Peluso said. "But I was really proud of the girls tonight. They worked hard, and they played together as a team, which is what we've been stressing at every practice. We had a lot of people step up tonight. It was really fun to watch."
Ronda had a near double-double with 11 kills and nine digs on the evening. Kelsie Doran had 19 assists and four digs, while Sarah Krippner added 16 assists and six digs. Alli Bordelon led the YellowJackets in digs with 17, and Carissa Moore recorded three block solos and five block assists for LETU.
LeTourneau is back on the court for a doubleheader Saturday, as the YellowJackets face conference rival East Texas Baptist at 2 p.m., followed by Jarvis Christian at 4:30 p.m.
