The LeTourneau University volleyball team split a pair of matches defeating Sul Ross State (25-12, 25-21, 25-20) and losing to host Mary Hardin-Baylor (25-20, 25-9, 25-20) on Friday at the ASC Inter-pod Tournament in Belton.
The YellowJackets (7-23, 2-15 ASC) started the day with a solid offensive output against the Lobos of Sul Ross State. Freshman
Dolores Kroese had a team-best 16 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. The .333 hitting percentage by Kroese is her second highest of the 2013 season. Setting her attack was sophomore
Sarah Krippner, who had 29 assists; plus, sophomore
Kayla Ronda had three service aces.
Sul Ross State (0-25, 0-15 ASC) had a balanced attack in the defeat as Jessica Smith had five kills and three more had four.
In the nightcap, the host Crusaders hit .245 compared to .079 for the YellowJackets en route to the win. To lead Mary Hardin-Baylor, Bianca Patterson had 11 kills; plus, Kendall Pye had a double double with 22 assists and 11 digs. With the win, Mary Hardin-Baylor raises its record to 24-5 overall and 13-3 in the ASC.
Kroese again led the LeTourneau attack with nine kills in the loss. Setters sophomore
Sarah Krippner and freshman
Alyssa Eden had 14 and 12 assists, respectively. Eden also added three block assists and teammate freshman
Elyse Wright added a block solo and two block assists. Wright and sophomore
Alexia Thomas each had five kills in the contest.
The YellowJackets will wrap up its participation in its final ASC Inter-pod Tournament on Saturday when they take on Concordia at noon.
