YellowJackets Split Pair of Matches at ASC Inter-pod Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The LeTourneau University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the ASC Inter-pod Tournament hosted by East Texas Baptist in Marshall. The YellowJackets (6-15, 1-8 ASC) lost to ASC leader Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 and defeated Sul Ross State, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20.

In the loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor, sophomore Alexia Thomas had nine kills to pace the LETU attack. Sophomore teammate Kayla Ronda had seven kills and seven digs in the defeat for the YellowJackets. UMHB utilized a balanced attack with three different players recording seven kills in the win as they outhit LETU .269 to .044.

In the nightcap against Sul Ross State, the YellowJackets started the opening set with an early 11-4 run en route to a 25-15 win. LETU hit .200 compared to -.120 for the Lobos; plus, Thomas had three kills to lead the attack.

The Rockville, Maryland native continued to lead the strong swings in the second set with a team-best four kills as the YellowJackets hit at a .256 clip. She also added a block assist and a service ace to give LeTourneau a two-set lead. Plus, in the second set, freshman Elyse Wright and Ronda had three kills.

In the third set, LeTourneau was led by freshman Dolores Kroese, who had seven of her team-best 11 kills. The effort by Kroese was supplemented by four service aces including a pair from sophomore Sarah Krippner to complete the three-set win for the YellowJackets. Krippner also had 31 assists and nine digs to lead the YellowJackets in the win over the Lobos.

Next on the schedule for LeTourneau is its annual Dig Pink contest on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. against Austin College at Solheim Arena.
