The LeTourneau University volleyball team dropped a 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 decision to East Texas Baptist on Friday night in Solheim Arena.

The YellowJackets (6-16, 2-8 ASC) were led by junior
Kayla Ronda, who had a team-high 9 kills in the loss. Setters
Nicole Mosley and
Alyssa Eden had 14 and 10 assists, respectively; plus
Alli Bordelon and
Dolores Kroese had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Tigers (10-8, 8-1 ASC) featured a multi-faceted attack that saw Mallory Sanders lead East Texas Baptist with a match-high 11 kills. In the win, ETBU out hit LETU, .258 to .163 to extend their winning streak to 10 and remain at the top of the American Southwest Conference. Adaeze Elonu and Bailee Moore with 10 and nine kills, respectively; plus Kayla Taylor set the attack with 23 assists. Morgan Rupp added nine digs to lead ETBU.

ETBU started the match with a 4-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. LETU managed to cut the deficit to as little as two, twice, including 19-17 but the Tigers pushed back in front with enough of a spurt to take the opening set, 25-21.

LETU began the second set with a 5-3 lead before a 9-2 run put the visitors ahead 12-7 and for the rest of the set. LETU cut the deficit to 23-20 when freshman
Rachel Earle and
Savanna Stutts recorded a block to prompt an ETBU timeout. Elonu recorded a kill and an attack error by the YellowJackets closed out the set in favor of the Tigers, 25-20.

In the third set, the Tigers built a 3-0 lead and held the lead for the rest of the set. LeTourneau cut the deficit to two, 15-13 before a four-point spurt by the visitors ahead for the rest of the set.

Next, LeTourneau will be on the road for its next three matches, beginning with a 6 p.m. tilt on October 17 at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. Â
