LETU Women's Soccer Escapes with 3-2 Win Over Louisiana College

LeTourneau University freshman Kennedy Keer knocked in a header for her second collegiate goal with 15 seconds left in the women's soccer match to propel the host YellowJackets to a 3-2 win over Louisiana College on Friday.

The YellowJackets (5-5-1, 2-2 ASC) set up for a corner kick in the final seconds of the match with sophomore Raylene Gould finding Keer on a corner kick with 15 seconds left to play. LETU head coach John Antonisse sent in his entire team on the corner kick with Keer capitalizing on the game winner.

The Wildcats (0-9, 0-3 ASC) jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage but it was the YellowJackets, who answered the challenge for the come-from-behind victory.

"We played a very tough opponent tonight and escaped with a last-second goal, which shows the character of our team," said Antonisse. "I'm very thankful that the Lord has blessed us with a winner's mentality. The ladies stepped up to the challenge of the game at just the right time."

LC went ahead in the sixth minute on a Zully Maldonado goal and added to their lead on a Erin Biggs goal in the 20th minute.

The YellowJackets refused to concede and got on the board when sophomore Stephanie Vana scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Bonita, California native found the back of the net when she dribbled down the middle and fired a shot past Annette Londono in the 23rd minute.

Trailing 2-1, just before halftime, Vana had a shot that was deflected by Londono and alertly picked up by freshman Angie Patino for her first collegiate goal to tie the contest at 2 in the 44th minute. The game remained tied until the last-second heroics by Keer on the corner kick.

Next, LeTourneau will host East Texas Baptist in East Texas United FC Night on Saturday, October 11 at 5 p.m.
