The LeTourneau University women's soccer team rallied for a 1-1 tie with East Texas Baptist University on Saturday evening in a matchup of local rivals on East Texas FC Night.
Â
LeTourneau (5-5-2, 2-2-1 ASC) answered the call by veteran head coach
John Antonisse to shift to a 4-4-2. Trailing 1-0 in the 68
th minute
Riley Scarborough scored her first collegiate goal. Scarborough went 1-on-1 and took it down the side and put it past the ETBU goalkeeper to tie the contest.
Â
East Texas Baptist (4-4-2, 0-2-2) had scored earlier in the half in the 61
st minute when Erin Miller took a flick pass from inside the six from Shannon Jones for a 1-0 lead by the Tigers.
Â
The play by LETU goalkeeper sophomore
Brittany Hollis, who was making her first start of the season and ETBU goalkeeper Christina Salas kept the two teams off the scoreboard, making nine and seven saves, respectively. Each team had chances in the closing minutes of regulation; however, it was the goalkeepers who kept the contest tied.
Â
Hollis and the LETU defense withstood four corner kick opportunities in the second overtime and a shot by Shannon Jones in the 109
th minute to preserve the tie.
The YellowJackets will next be on the road for two matches starting with a contest against ASC leader, Hardin-Simmons on Friday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. in Abilene. Â
