LETU Volleyball Loses to Concordia and Austin College

The LeTourneau University volleyball team lost to Concordia, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21 and Austin College, 25-19, 25-22, 28-26 on Saturday afternoon in Solheim Arena.

The YellowJackets (6-14, 2-6 ASC) sophomore Dolores Kroese and Elyse Wright each had nine kills in the loss to Concordia. Six of nine for Kroese came in the second set and Wright had five of her nine in the third set. Setters freshman Nicole Mosley had 15 assists and sophomore Alyssa Eden added 14. Junior Alli Bordelon had 18 digs and Kroese added 11.

Concordia (8-8, 4-4 ASC) was led by Katie Baker, who had a match-high 15 kills including seven in the opening set. Zoe Allen managed the attack with 28 assists and libero Casse Dominguez accounted for 17 digs and three service aces in the win.

In the first set, back-to-back kills by Baker and Emmalee Kohler spoiled a come-from-behind effort that saw the YellowJackets rally from four-different, five-point deficits to tie it twice. A 7-2 run midway through the second set sparked Concordia to the two set to none advantage. In the Skye Truss had four kills and four digs and the Tornados registered three blocks. To close out the match, LETU jumped out to a 6-1 advantage before Concordia would eventually rally to tie the set at 20 on a Sara Hill kill. The Tornados scored five of the next six points to secure the straight-set win.

In the nightcap against Austin College, Kroese registered her team-leading fourth double double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Eden had 16 assists and Mosley added 14, plus the LETU frontline accounted for eight blocks. Wright and sophomore Skylar Horan each had three block assists.

For Austin College (18-9), Madison Lee and Presleigh Watson had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Setters Chandler Sherman and Lauren Wulz accounted for 19 and 18 assists, respectively. Libero Rachel Fusselman had a match-high 20 assists and the 'Roos had nine blocks as a team.

Against AC, the visitors from Sherman led nearly from start-to-finish with Lee accounting for six kills en route to the first set victory. The second set saw LETU build a 14-9 lead before the set went back and forth until back to back kills by Kelsey Lillis and Rebekah Bowden wrapped up the set for a 25-22 victory. Lillis had a team-high five kills as Austin College out hit LETU, .238 to .133.  The third set was closely contest, much like the of the match, with the set tied on 10 occasions. With the set tied at 26, Reygan Holloman and Lee ended the match with consecutive kills for the straight-set win.

LeTourneau will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 7 as they host Texas-Tyler at 7 p.m. The two teams played earlier this year on Sept. 9 with the Patriots winning in four.
