LeTourneau Comes Up Short in 72-56 Loss to UT-Tyler

Box Score The University of Texas-Tyler led from start-to-finish en route to a 72-56 win over the LeTourneau University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Solheim Arena.

The ASC leading Patriots (16-3, 14-2 ASC) landed all five starters in double digits for the win. Brittany King led UT-Tyler with 15 points. She'Cara Humphrey and Danai Woods added 14 and 13, respectively. Plus, Teylor Seals and Taylor Murphy contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

LeTourneau (7-11, 5-10 ASC) had balanced scoring with 10-different YellowJackets contributing in the defeat. Sophomore Ashley Stephens nearly had a double double with nine points and eight rebounds to go along with three blocks and two assists in the loss. The YellowJacket bench outscored the Patriots, 34-8 in the loss. Junior Rebecca Stewart, senior Jessica Manas and freshman Ashley Crockett each added seven off the bench.

UT-Tyler started the game on a 10-0 run but the YellowJackets closed the gap to three, 18-15 when Stephens hit a 3 pointer with 9:17 left in the first 20 minutes. However, the Patriots continued its dominance of the first half, outscoring the Yellow Jackets by a 20-6 margin on points in the paint and 20-7 on points off turnovers.

A layup by the Patriots towards the end of the first half up put the visitors ahead by double digits for the rest of the contest. LeTourneau cut the deficit to as little as 10 on a pair of occasions but no closer in the loss.

In the second half, the YellowJackets held the Patriots to 40% shooting from the field as they shot 46.4%. In addition, they outscored the visitors, 20-10 on points in the paint, 11-7 off turnovers and a convincing 21-7 margin in bench scoring.

LeTourneau will continue the rigors of the American Southwest Conference for its next matchup when they travel to Belton, Texas on Thursday, February 6th to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 p.m.
