LeTourneau Loses Double Overtime Thriller to Concordia, 81-76

Box Score An 8-0 spurt during the second overtime was just enough to lead Concordia to an 81-76 double overtime win over the LeTourneau University women's basketball team on Saturday in Austin.

LeTourneau (7-13, 5-12 ASC) senior Alexis Wighaman made two free throws with 2:18 left in the second overtime that put the visitors up by a 72-70 margin.

Wighaman finished the game with her second double double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Rebecca Stewart had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in her first start; plus senior Ashley Fajardo added 16.

On the ensuing possession, the Tornados' Tyler Compton made a pair of free throws to tie the contest for the 11th time. She followed that up with a layup with 1:14 left to play that put the home team up for the rest of the contest.

Compton led Concordia (10-11, 8-10 ASC) with a game-high 29 points including 17 of 20 from the free-throw line. She was joined in double digits by Kia Love, who had 12 and Dominique Liddell had a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The two teams were tied at halftime, 27-27; at the end of regulation, 62-62 and the first overtime, 66-66.

To get to overtime, Concordia had to rally from behind, LeTourneau led for the final 10 minutes of regulation. Wighaman put the YellowJackets up six, 59-53, with 1:21 to play but the Tornados rallied to score nine of the final 12 points to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, Concordia scored the first four points of the overtime until LeTourneau tied it at 66 when Ashley Fajardo hit a jumper with 18 seconds to play. A last-second 3 pointer attempt by the YellowJackets came up short.

The YellowJackets will next return to action with its final two road contests of the season when they travel to Hardin-Simmons University on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Abilene at 5:30 p.m.
