The LeTourneau University volleyball team split a pair of matches – losing to East Texas Baptist - 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 and defeating Centenary – 21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 26-24 – on Friday in Marshall.
The YellowJackets (3-8, 0-2 ASC) were led by sophomore
Dolores Kroese and junior
Kayla Ronda in the first match against East Texas Baptist. Kroese had 11 kills and five digs for LETU, plus Ronda added 10 kills in the loss.
The Tigers (2-8, 1-1 ASC) out hit LETU, .250 to -.038 in the win. Mallory Sanders anchored the attack with a .440 hitting percentage on the strength of a double double performance with 13 kills and 10 digs to go along with three service aces for the Tigers. Setters Kayla Taylor and Nicole Buzzard each had 11 assists and along the frontline, Adaeze Elonu had two block solos and five block assists in the win.
LETU came back in the nightcap to defeat Centenary with a balanced attack. Sophomore
Elyse Wright led the charge with a nine kill, six block and two service ace effort. Kroese added eight kills and 10 digs; in addition, sophomore
Alyssa Eden had a 13 assist and four service ace performance in the win.
For Centenary (2-6), Rachel Perkins had a double double with 16 digs and 11 kills in the loss, plus Desiree Frey added a team-high 13 kills. Allison Laszewski also had a double double with 14 digs and 21 assists for the Ladies.
The YellowJackets will travel to Shreveport on Wednesday for a rematch with Centenary before returning home for the first time on the season, Friday, Sept. 19 when they host Hardin-Simmons at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. against Howard Payne at 3 p.m. vs. McMurry.
