LETU Falls Short in 2-1 Double Overtime Loss to Austin College

In the 104th minute, a goal by Erin Eckart of Austin College propelled the visiting Kangaroos to a 2-1 win over the LeTourneau University women's soccer team on Tuesday evening.

The YellowJackets (1-1) rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the 71st minute when sophomore Raylene Gould equalized on a shot from the left side of the box. Gould, who broke free from the Austin College defense to take a centering pass from sophomore Stephanie Vana – who on Tuesday was named the American Southwest Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week – to the back of the net, tying the game at 1.

Austin College (3-0) took an early 1-0 lead when Kyli Scott scored in the 37th minute. The freshman midfielder from Grapevine scored when teammate Shannon Smith connected with Scott on the left side from nearly 15 yards out for the goal.

Before LeTourneau would equalize, in the second half, freshman JoLynn O'Kelley and Gould had chances in the 54th and 57th minute that were scooped up by Austin College goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya, who made seven saves between the posts.

LeTourneau goalkeeper Jamie Aguillen had a strong game in goal for the YellowJackets. The junior from San Antonio pushed away chances including a go-ahead opportunity in the 84th minute that led to overtime.

In the overtime, neither team scored in the first 10 minutes before Austin College came away with the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of the second overtime.

The YellowJackets will return to action on Friday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's program against former ASC member, Schreiner.
