YellowJackets Lose to Hendrix and TLU at Austin College Volleyball Classic

The LeTourneau University volleyball team lost to Hendrix, 25-10, 25-21, 25-22 and Texas Lutheran, 25-12, 25-12, 25-20 in the final day of the Austin College Volleyball Classic on Saturday.

The YellowJackets (2-6) were led by sophomore Skylar Horan, who had six kills and a .429 hitting percentage in the straight-set loss to Hendrix College. LETU sophomores Dolores Kroese and Mackenzie Davies each had 14 digs in the loss for the YellowJackets.

The Warriors (6-2), who advanced to the finals of the Southern Athletic Association in 2014, were led by the tandem of Brandi Ryan and Natalie Masten, who had 12 and 11 kills, respectively.  Hendrix capitalized on eight service aces and seven total team blocks as well as they out hit LeTourneau by a .286 to .071 in the win.

In the nightcap against Texas Lutheran, Kroese had nine kills and nine digs in the loss for LETU. Sophomore setter Alyssa Eden had 19 assists; plus, junior Kayla Ronda and Davies had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

TLU (7-1) had a .234 hitting percentage compared to .000 for LeTourneau. Brette Threadgill had 10 kills to lead the attack along with a .500 hitting percentage. Anna Keeling had six kills and five block assists and Katie Darst had 15 assists and three service aces for the Bulldog attack.

TLU led from start-to-finish in the first set, including a 16-6 run to begin the match. In the second set, LETU held a 9-6 lead after a Kayla Ronda kill; then, TLU scored the next 18 points en route to winning the set. The third set saw the YellowJackets cut the deficit to one on three occasions but a 5-1 run and an 8-0 run during the set proved to be the difference.

The YellowJackets will next play close to home for its next four matches before its home opener, starting with a match up on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at the University of Texas at Tyler to begin American Southwest Conference play.
