LeTourneau Men's Basketball Loses at Ozarks, 81-64

University of the Ozarks scored the first seven points of the game en route to an 81-64 win over the LeTourneau University men's basketball team on Saturday in Clarksville, Arkansas.

The YellowJackets (5-14, 3-11 ASC) were held to 31.1% (23-for-74) shooting from the field. A trio of players – Kelby Schimming (pictured), Aaron Frizell and Josh Thornton – scored in double digits for LeTourneau. Schimming, a freshman from Friendswood, scored a career-high 15 points in the loss to lead LETU. Off the bench, the two seniors – Frizell and Thornton – scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The LETU reserves outscored the host Eagles, 39-9 in the win. The 39 points by the bench is the fourth highest effort by the YellowJackets in 2014-15.

Ozarks (7-12, 4-11 ASC) got on the board just five seconds into the game when Josh Berard made a 3-pointer to set the tone for the afternoon. Four Ozarks players scored in double figures, including Kelby Robinson, who had a game-high 25 points with three 3-pointers. Berard (18 points), Jace Richardson (12 points) and Ted Beard IV (10 points) joined Robinson in double digits.

In the win, a pair of Eagles had double double performances, including Beard IV, who had a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with 10 points and Richardson dished out 10 assists and 25 points.

Despite the early deficit, LeTourneau rallied with a 7-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 10-9 when freshman Sam Talbert made a 3 pointer with 15:34 left in the first half. The Eagles retaliated with the next seven points to keep LETU away for the rest of the contest.

Later in the half, Ozarks stretched the margin to double digits for the rest of the contest when they scored 15 of the final 23 points in the first 20 minutes. In the second half, LeTourneau cut the deficit to as little as 15 as the bench outscored Ozarks, 30-2.

The YellowJackets will return to Longview for its next four games, beginning with a contest against Concordia on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. for Hawaiian Night at Solheim Arena.
