A goal in each half was just enough to lead University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to a 2-0 win over the LeTourneau University women's soccer team on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The two teams played the entire contest in a constant downpour of rain, making the playing conditions difficult and altering the strategy for both teams.
The loss drops LeTourneau to 7-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the ASC and the win improves UMHB to 10-3-1 overall and 7-1 in the ASC with one week of regular season play on the horizon.
UMHB scored in the 29
th minute on a header by Jessie Simmonds, who accepted a crossing pass from Elissa Freberg for the early 1-0 lead. Then, the Cru added their second goal of the day when Allison Porter played a ball and shot it to the lower right for the insurance tally. Cru goalkeeper Coutney Craig had five saves in the shutout.
LeTourneau had five shots on goal from five-different players in the loss. LETU junior
Raylene Gould had a team-high two shots and junior goalkeeper
Brittany Hollis had four saves.
Following the game, LETU recognized seniors
Kaitlynn Conway and
Jenny Heidt for their contributions to the program both on and off the field.
Next, LETU will close out the regular season with a trip to Abilene to face McMurry (Fri., Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.) and Hardin-Simmons (Sat., Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.)
