Two first-time goal scorers –
Raylene Gould and
Victoria Ratliff - and a season-high seventh goal by sophomore
Kennedy Keer sparked the LETU women's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout win over Louisiana College on Friday afternoon in Longview.
The YellowJackets (6-4, 4-1 ASC) were successful on a corner kick in the 21
st minute when Keer headed in a corner kick from sophomore
Riley Scarborough for the early 1-0 lead. Later, in the half, Gould settled the ball down on a breakway after a pass from senior
Jenny Heidt and the left-footed Fremont, California native sent a shot away from the Wildcats' goalkeeper to the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage in the 41
st minute. With a two-goal lead at the halftime break, LETU is outscoring its opponents by a 12-7 margin in the first 45 minutes. Ironically, Gould and Keer connected on the game-winning goal in last year's 3-2 win.
The Wildcats got off just six shots against LETU goalkeepers
Bridey Davis and
Brittany Hollis as well as an aggressive defense for the fourth shutout of the season for the YellowJackets.
With a two-goal lead in the second half, LETU added to its lead when freshman
Victoria Ratliff scored on an open shot after back-to-back passes by junior
Stephanie Vana and freshman
Keely Hayden in the 56
th minute. The Wildcats had four chances that were scooped up by Hollis and Davis to preserve the shutout.
Next, LeTourneau will host Belhaven in a non-conference contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
