LeTourneau Women's Basketball Ends 2015 with 30-Point Win Over Texas Lutheran

The LeTourneau University women's basketball rolled to a 93-63 win over Texas Lutheran on Wednesday at the UT Tyler Christmas Classic in Tyler. The win avenged a 62-59 loss to the Bulldogs on November 27 for the YellowJackets.

In the win, LeTourneau junior Crystal Jones scored 30 points to lead three YellowJackets in double figures, who improve to 7-5 on the season. For the Fort Worth native, it is her third effort where she scored at least 30 points for LETU. Jones was joined in double figures by juniors Shaquicia Johnson and Ashley Crockett, who had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

LETU controlled the paint with a 46-22 advantage and shot 47.9% (34-for-71) from the field. The 47.9% effort is the second highest on the season for the YellowJackets. The 30-point win by LeTourneau is its largest margin of victory since a 51-point rout of Sul Ross State on December 6, 2012. The 93 points are the most since a 99-point effort against Howard Payne in a double overtime game, last year on January 15 in Longview.

Texas Lutheran, who falls to 4-6 on the season, was led by the 12-point effort from Adelaide Wenzell. The YellowJacket defense held the Bulldogs to 30.5% (18-for-59) shooting from the field.

Jones scored 13 of her 30 in the first period as the YellowJackets held a six-point lead, 25-19, after the first 10 minutes. After the two teams exchanged 3 pointers to start the second period, LETU went on a 16-0 run to push the lead to double figures for the remainder of the contest. LeTourneau took the lead to as much as 38, 85-47, in the fourth period.

The next game for LeTourneau women is on Monday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. against No. 9 UT Tyler in Tyler as the YellowJackets return to the rigors of the American Southwest Conference.
