The LeTourneau University baseball team opened up the 2015 season with a 9-5 loss to fellow 2014 NCAA Division III Regional participant, Trinity.

The YellowJackets (0-1) were held to six hits by three Trinity pitchers. Junior
Sean Sellers and sophomore
Kyle Jacobs (pictured)Â each had two hits. LETU starter
Cody Whitley went 5.2 innings, scattering eight hits and striking out three in the loss.

The Tigers (1-0) scored four times in the sixth and three more in the seventh in the win. All nine batters in the lineup contributed to a 12-hit attack for Trinity. Designated hitter Jose Santos accounted for three of the 12 hits and Austin Singer had three of the nine RBI for the Tigers. Trinity starter Zach Speer went 7 innings, striking out 11 and allowing four hits in the win to improve to 2-0.

LETU got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single by senior
Caleb Pritchett. With Jacobs on second and
Bryce Henry on first, Pritchett gave LETU its first run of the season and the early lead. A two-run fourth inning by Trinity put the visitors ahead before LETU plated a run on an RBI single by Sellers in the fifth to tie the game at 2.

With the game tied, Trinity answered with four in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 9-2 lead. LeTourneau cut into the lead when Henry hit a triple with the bases loaded, scoring three runs for the YellowJackets for the final margin.

LETU will continue its home stand with a noon contest against SCAC member, Texas Lutheran at Conrad-Vernon Field. The Bulldogs were picked to finish second just behind Trinity.Â
