A Pair of 17-2 Runs Lead Howard Payne Past LeTourneau in Season Finale

Howard Payne University held LeTourneau University women's basketball to 21.3% shooting en route to a 77-52 win on Saturday afternoon in Brownwood.

The loss ends the season for LETU, who finished with an 8-17, 6-14 ASC record. In the loss, LeTourneau senior Kalyn Shorter (pictured) was the top scorer with 12 points.
Howard Payne, who will advance to the upcoming conference tournament, raised its record to 15-10 overall and 12-8 in the ASC.  HPU had three players record double double performances including Danyel Bradley (25 points and 11 rebounds), Sarah Van Remmen (12 points and 11 rebounds) and Kalin Hanna (10 points and 11 rebounds) in the win.

HPU started the game on a 17-2 run in the first 5:44 of the game and never looked back. Despite facing a 16-point halftime deficit, 42-26, LeTourneau rallied in the second half with a 17-8 spurt to start the final 20 minutes. The spurt cut the deficit to seven, 50-43, when Ashley Stephens made a lay-up with 14:23 to play. Howard Payne retaliated with another 17-2 run to end the comeback efforts by LETU.
