LETU Softball Splits Doubleheader with UT Dallas

The LeTourneau University softball team split a doubleheader with the UT Dallas to wrap up the weekend series on Saturday. The YellowJackets took the opener, 3-1 and dropped the nightcap, 5-3.

LeTourneau started the day with a come-from-behind win in game one. With a 1-0 deficit in the sixth, LeTourneau scored three times for the come-from-behind win.

LETU started the inning with a pinch-hit double by freshman Nikole Williams, who then moved to third on a passed ball. Next, sophomore Whitney Judd tied the game with a RBI single. The rally continued with a single by junior Megan Hill to put runners on first and second for Taylor Kaderli, who delivered an RBI single to put the YellowJackets ahead 2-1. Then, LETU loaded the bases as pinch hitter Brianna Williams was hit by a pitch. Then, a RBI ground out by Rachel Gauspohl scored the third run of the inning for what proved to be the final margin.

LETU starter Kaylee Pritchett picked up the complete game win, allowing five hits and striking out three in the win to improve to 4-8.

In the nightcap, UT Dallas came back from a 3-0 deficit for a 5-3 win. LeTourneau had seven hits in the loss, but it was a 15-hit attack by the visiting Comets that proved to be the difference. The YellowJackets' Rachel Gauspohl had two of the seven hits to lead LeTourneau. The Comets' Jessica Ramos and Avery McHugh each had three hits in the win to lead UT Dallas.

LeTourneau scored two in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Gauspohl; then, they added another on a bases loaded walk to Kaderli in the second for an early 3-0 lead.

UT Dallas cut into the deficit when they scored twice on a pair of RBI singles in the third inning. The Comets tied it at 3 in the fourth inning on a RBI single and took the lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run for a 4-3 lead. Later in the sixth, they added another run on its fourth RBI single of the game for the final margin.

The YellowJackets will return to action for a home doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Centenary.
