The LeTourneau University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to UT Dallas to open the 2015 season.
The YellowJackets (0-1) went toe-to-toe against the Comets, who were picked to finish fourth in the American Southwest Conference preseason poll. LETU veteran head coach
John Antonisse devised a plan to neutralize a UTD attack that outscored the opposition, 46-17 in 2014. A dedicated team effort on the defensive side of the pitch and strong play by YellowJackets' freshman goalkeeper
Bridey Davis held the visitors in check.
The Comets (1-0) Megan Mugavero beat Davis to the right side from 10 yards out in the 98
th minute to end the contest with the game-winning goal. UTD goalkeeper Monica Dallacasa made a pair of saves while facing nine YellowJackets shots.
The YellowJackets (0-1) were led offensively by junior
Stephanie Vana, who accounted for five of the nine shots for the YellowJackets. Davis had 14 saves for the YellowJackets in the defeat. Vana and LeTourneau quickly put pressure on the Comets in the extra session. The junior from LaVerne, California had a shot that was blocked in the first 17 seconds, a little over a minute later, she had an attempt that sailed wide.
LeTourneau will be on the road for its next three matches including a pair, this weekend. First, the YellowJackets will face Schreiner University on Friday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. in Kerrville; then, they will face Texas Lutheran on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m.
