LETU Volleyball Drops Pair on First Day of Pacific Coast Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 On the first day of the Pacific Coast Classic, the LeTourneau University volleyball team dropped a pair of decisions to LaVerne (20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 15-10) and Cal Lutheran (19-25, 25-15, 25-3, 25-17) in LaVerne, California. The YellowJackets (0-3) have won the first set in all three of its matches in 2015.

"I was very impressed with my team today," said LETU head coach Scott Peluso. "They played with a great deal of heart and energy. We knew we had a big challenge ahead of us with these two teams but our team really stepped up to the challenge. I told them before the matches that they had a choice to either fear the challenge or embrace it and they definitely embraced it. We did a nice job in both matches offensively. Both teams put up a pretty big block but our setters did a great job of spreading the ball around and mixing up the offense putting our hitters into good situations.  Our blockers did some nice things and our backrow made some great defensive plays. We are playing some great team volleyball. We still left some points on the court but that is what these early tournaments are for - to see what still needs work."

In Friday's first match against host LaVerne, junior Dolores Kroese had her first double double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Plus, sophomore setter Nicole Mosley had a double double with 25 assists and 10 digs in the defeat. LETU managed to cut the deficit to three on a pair of occasions to even the match at a set apiece. The third set was controlled by Cal Lutheran from start to finish en route to a 25-3 victory. The Regals secured the match, following the third tie of the set with a 5-0 spurt to take a 14-9 lead. CLU would never let the YellowJackets draw any closer en route to the victory.
