Two first half goals sparked the LETU men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Schreiner University on Friday afternoon in Kerrville.
The YellowJackets (1-1) evened their record at .500 with goals by
Jay Huemoeller and
Alan Flores (pictured) in the first 45 minutes. Huemoeller ended a scoreless contest in the 23
rd minute, scoring his first goal of the season. Later in the half, Flores found the back of the net on a corner kick for his first goal of the season in the 33
rd minute.
"It was a great team effort," said LETU head coach
Matthew Haesecke. "We capitalized on some set pieces and were able to get the win."
The Mountaineers (0-2) ended the shutout bid for the YellowJackets when they scored in the 79
th minute on a Chase Smith goal.
Despite surrendering a goal, LETU junior goalkeeper
Miguel Cabrera had a strong game between the posts with six saves. "Miguel was huge in goal for us," said Haesecke.
The YellowJackets will wrap up the weekend with a 4 p.m. tilt against Texas Lutheran on Saturday in Seguin.
